Piemonte (piedmont) is in the north west of Italy at the Apennines, the foothills of the Alps. The chill from the Alps and the warm breezes from the Mediterranean paired with the sloped sunny south facing sites of Barolo mean conditions are ripe for making high quality wine. Piemonte, like Tuscany is considered the top wine region of Italy where many of Italy's most prestigious wines coming from here. Barolo and Barbaresco are the most notable red wines based on the Nebbiolo grape and Gavi a white wine from the Cortese grape.
